Asia-Pacific Summer School in Smart Structures Technology (APSS)
In 2010 I had the opportunity to spend three weeks in Tokyo, Japan learning about smart structures technology. The APSS program brings together researchers from the United States, China, Japan and Korea interested in smart structures. Although the technical content was excellent, the international collaboration was the highlight. It was thrilling to collaborate with other students who had vastly different cultural and academic backgrounds. I forged strong relationships with many students from around the world.
Journal of Structural Engineering invited Reviewer
In 2012 I was invited as a reviewer for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Structural Engineering (JSE). After experiencing the journal review process as an author, it was refreshing to review other's original content. I was honored to be considered an expert in a field of structural engineering.
